Pamela Rodger's Artist Statement :

For over 30 years I have used the potter's wheel or hand built decorative and functional vessels from a white porcelain clay body. The pieces are fired to 2345 degrees F. in an electric kiln. Since the heat source radiates and does not burn around the pieces, the glaze colors are clean and bright with rich penetrating hues.
Like all clay artists, my glaze chemistry is from personal research. I have used the same white glaze for decades, as the pivotal point for a wide variety of colors and effects. My glaze chemistry grows small crystal structures within variables provided by natural minerals, kiln heat, time and barometric pressure.
Clay is a material that adapts and responds to gentleness and to force. I enjoy the accuracy of the "give and take" relationship. I find comfort in the discipline and timing that clay requires. My tenacity, as well as my education from the University of Saskatchewan and the Banff Center of the Arts has forged my career and fuelled my motivation.
Living in the foothills of the Canadian Rockies for over 25 years has influenced my forms and colors. In my hand - built vessels, I carve anonymous growth patterns to give the illusion and yet the certainty of movement. I strive for clarity and honesty in my life and in my art.

Pottery is frequently made on a potter's wheel. But in the case of this line of work, I did not use a potter's wheel, rather, I started with thin sheets of wet clay that I draped over forms until they were about as dry as hard chocolate. At that stage I shape, cut, and carve the clay to achieve the desired form. Therefore they are not cast, molded, or pressed out in duplication. There are no two shapes that are the same. The smooth white nature of the high fire porcelain makes them refined. The suggestion of dense colour on a white background stimulates vivid energy. They are exquisite treasures that ensure the unique quality of us as precious individuals, as we hold a one-of-a-kind piece.
