Lama Pema Gyaltsen Rinpoche (Wonchen Lama) was born in Riwoche region of Eastern Kham Tibet . His family lineage dates back 30 generations to the 9th century to" Snow Lion of the Great Mist" , who was one of Guru Rinpoche"s main disciples. This rare and precious family lineage is  carried like an unbroken golden chain into the 21st century to Wonchen Lama and his son Lama Gyurme Dorje Rinpoche (Wonchen Tulku ).

Both Wonchen Lama and Wonchen Tulku hold the rare and endangered Taklung Kagyu lineage , as well as the Karma Kagyu and the Longchen Nyingthig ( Heart Essence of the Vast Expanse ) lineage of the Nyingma School of Tibetan Vajrayana Buddhism.

Lama Pema Gyaltsen Rinpoche, a master of Mahamudra , came to North America in 1999 , staying at the Shambhala Centre in Boulder , Colorado and at  Karma Choling in Vermont

Drawing upon the wisdom of all schools of Buddhism, Lama Gyurme's teachings emphasize Tantric or Vajrayana Buddhism, a unique and effective collection of teachings and practices particularly appropriate to the world today.

Lama Gyurme Rinpoche (Wonchen Tulku) is a descendant of thirty generations of Buddhist monks from the ninth century Lang Chen Pal Kyi Sing Kyi-Snow Lion of Great Mist.
